Physical movement, the freedom to play, and playful learning across the school day improves a child’s social, emotional, physical, and cognitive skills. However, many American children engage in less than an hour of unstructured play per day.

Parents, caregivers of children, teachers, school leaders, and community members are invited to join Trying Together and Playful Pittsburgh for community conversations to discuss how play is an important part of a child’s school life. Attendees will also learn about how to advocate for play and developmentally appropriate practice in early childhood.

Dinner and child care will be provided to participants of the event. It will run from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 30 at the Spartan Community Center of Hazlewood, located at 134 East Elizabeth Street in Pittsburgh. Registration for the event is now open.
