The performance is aimed at those with autism spectrum disorder, sensory sensitivity, or other individual needs. The performances have a relaxed atmosphere, so they are ideal for families with small children.
The event will be a judgment-free zone where performers, theater staff, and patrons are accepting of additional sound and movement in the audience and lobby.
Accommodations include lower sound levels, elimination of some special effects and house lighting at 20%. There will also be quiet areas and activities in the lobby before and during the show.
The performance will be held at 4:30 p.m. on December 7 at the Benedum Center for Performing Arts. The program will feature “The Nutcracker” story, an adaptive dance class, and activities that bring the performance to life. It is intended for ages 6 and above.
Those interested in attending should fill out a Google form to request free tickets. Each family will receive up to five tickets. Additional tickets can be purchased for $15 each.
