PLAY BUZZ Box Booklist Includes 10 Titles Focusing on Good Sportsmanship

The latest BUZZ Box focuses on one of the most integral aspects of childhood - PLAY - and includes a booklist filled with titles that examine the value of good sportsmanship.

The booklist includes 10 titles that explore stories about teamwork, perseverance, and respect. The characters in the books learn that how you play a game is just as important as winning.

Caregivers who read the book along with their children should encourage pretend play and for children to create stories of their own. Topics of discussion can include taking turns, being a kind  teammate, and cheering for friends.

These conversations - and the accompanying books - help preschoolers to build social skills, expand their vocabulary, and make connections between the stories they are reading and everyday activities.

The booklist’s titles include:

  • Baby Loves Sports (Addie Vaughters)

  • Come Catch a Dream (Brittany Thurman)

  • Let’s Play in the Park (Rene Colato Lainez)

  • Let’s Play Sports (Kate Baker)

  • Obioma Plays Football (Chika Unigwe)

  • Play Outside with Me (Kat Chen)

  • Rhea’s Rodeo (Laekan Zea Kemp)

  • The Way Champs Play (Naomi Osaka)

  • We Play Soccer (Rene Colato Lainez)

  • When I Am Playful (Paula Bowles)

Also, be sure to check out Buzzword’s PLAY page, where you can find the booklist, activities to accompany the selected titles, and the PLAY Activity Book.
